"Glee" has that Golden Globes gleam

Despite film flaws, Golden Globes give TV shows credit where it’s due

After yesterday’s screed about the Golden Globes’ treatment of foreign, indie and art house films, you’d think I’d be pretty peeved about television, too.

But I’m not.

In fact, I thought the Hollywood Foreign Press Association did a fine job of picking the winners from this season’s crop of cunning comedies and daring dramas.

“Big Love,” “Dexter,” “The Good Wife” and “Mad Men” got their fair share of kudos. Alec Baldwin of “30 Rock” retained his comedy king crown, and Toni Collette, the awesome Aussie star of “United States of Tara,” finally got a much-deserved Golden Globe.

For me, however, the greatest moment of the night came when the rambunctious cast of “Glee” galloped up to accept its award for best comedy.

I’ve been a fan of “Glee,” Fox’s fierce, funny sitcom about a struggling teacher and his misfit gang of choir geeks,  since the very beginning.

The show benefits from a delicious blend of smarts, soap opera storylines and the kind of catty showbiz humor familiar to any backstage veteran. Plus, there’s something about sassy song-and-dance numbers that makes me all warm and squishy inside.

My only regret is that “Glee” cast members Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele and Jane Lynch failed to walk home with  individual statuettes. It’d be difficult to turn down anyone in this tremendously talented cast.
